It does exist many
methods to improve the quality of life, but among all of them, the yoga
method is highlighted by its antiquity and efficiency.
The quality of anything we do may begin
by how we care for oneself.
To care about our personal health reflects
on all what we do and in our relations with companions.
It can not be separated the social quality
of life from the quality at personal life.
Thus if we want to live a little better
we need first to watch our quality of life, our environment and our relationship
to what surrounds us.
This method of self improvement shows us
that health is the most valuable belonging a person has, that a large
part our life is in connection with our health state and that for many
people the happiness is to have good health.
Yoga is a practical exercises methodology,
whose objective is the correct operation of all the systems that compose
the human body.
The human being delays time in understanding
the influence that exercise its life habits and its actions in the organism.
Normally during the infancy and youth we acquired a style, a way of living
that it is difficult to modifying in the rest of life. A high percentage
of the diseases that suffers a person are originated therefore by the
habits maintained throughout the years. Even being conscious of its nocivity,
sometimes we fell ourselves unable to changing them.
The yoga is a valid improvement instrument
in two given situations: on the one hand it has a preventive character,
that is to say, teaches us how to live healthy; and on the other hand
it presents a corrective character, so that permits us to change wrong
habits.
The change process suggested by the methodology
of yoga is gradual and it is based on education, in a learning process
that parts from the own experience and in the regular maintenance of practices.
Traditionally it has been considered of
few use the mere theoretical study of yoga without practice. We need physical
control to adapt us better, learn to breathe to control the emotional
reactions. These techniques based on the tradition of the indian classic
yoga, are shown as an integrative discipline of all these aspects, as
a practical discipline, of routine accomplishment and based on the human
physiology.
We have two types of techniques: postural
exercises and respiratory exercises ("asanas" and "pranayama" in its original
denomination in Sanskrit). Asanas for the physical control; correcting
the spinal column and balancing the muscular tone. The pranayama improves
the respiratory functions (ventilation and perfusion) and permits a general
improvement.
THE ASANAS (or physical exercises) are
models that, by its beneficial influence on the body, serve to improve
the health and to maintain the physical form. Provide welfare, stability,
harmony, relaxation, flexibility, balance and a greater concentration
capacity.
There are different types of asanas according
to the position of the body (sitting, lying, standing or inverted) and
according to its effect (corrective, relaxing, of stretching and of flexibility),
being the general purpose to obtain expansion and quietude.
They are done and undone quite slowly,
without jerks, with comfort, softly and slowly, without over stress neither
fatigue. They are maintained during some time with firmness but smoothly.
The asanas present an active part, dynamic
or of mobility (at the time of doing and undoing) and other passive, static
or of immobility (maintenance of the posture), being more important this
last one.
Correct practice requires an appropriate
mental attitude, a firm mind, with attention and in calmness, never producing
exhaustion. Maintaining the attention in observation of breathing helps
to that aim. The initial effort required for the maintenance of the asanas
will be gone reducing gradually as mastering over it comes.
From all among the existing asanas, one
must choose those that suits more to him, without need of practicing all.
Once it accomplished the election, one will practice in simple way constantly
and regularly until one could maintain them during a period of sufficiently
long time.
If we propose ourselves the accomplishment
of one or two of these exercises every day during a month, for example,
first we have to seek a way of learning these physical exercises (corrective
and relaxing) and respiratory, this is easy today and accessible to everybody
through the gymnasiums and yoga centers.
Yoga gives us quality of life by helping
us:
1. To learn a series of elemental exercises
that helps to develop a better health and welfare.
2. To try to incorporating healthy life
habits into the daily routine based on the exercise.
3. By muscular easing.
4. By the improvement of the respiratory
function.
5. To get relief and prevention of the
back aches.
6. By preventing some pathologies due to
wrong habits.
The importance of improving and increasing
our quality of life, of being better is also in working better, producing
more, to reduce the job sick leaves and to improve the quality of our
work.
Also we can live better at the same time
we are in our job, because in the actual working environment to care of
oneself is fundamental for to give an agreeable service and technical
quality to the society.
