A Vegetal Diet

Back to the Main Page
Does
a reasonable Vegetal Diet improve Life Quality and health? .
Why a Vegetal Diet?
Because of health reasons since an animal
diet is associated with many types of cancer, as well as heart ailments,
diabetes, obesity, diseases of the gall bladder and hypertension.
Because with a vegetable diet people life
is longer, with smaller risk of became sick, of going fat, suffering cancer
and osteoporosis.
Because meat contains approximately 14 times
more pesticides than vegetables.
Because million kilograms of antibiotics
and hormones are used in the animal production each year, these drugs
finish in the meat. 95- 99 percent of toxic chemical residues in human
diet come from animal sources.
Because reducing the meat consumption 50%,
reduces the risk of an heart attack 45%. And following a pure vegetarian
diet reduces the risk over 90%. Because meat increases the blood acid
level causing a calcium depletion from the bones to restore the balance
of the body natural pH. This calcium reduction weakens the bones.
Because the meat is contaminated very often
with toxoplasmosis and parasites. It is much less probable a bacteriological
infection (E. coli, Camphylobacter, and Salmonella) with a vegetable diet.
Because of environment respect, since the
industry of animal exploitation damages the nature consuming large quantities
of water, land and energy with a very small profit and a very high pollution
level.
For social justice because 72 % of the cereals
from developed countries goes to feed animals, but if those cereals where
used for human nourishment then it would be enough for all the planet
population. Sixty million of persons could be adequately fed with the
saved grain if the Europeans reduced the meat intake 10 percent.
Because the environmental problems that
generates the cattle production are an important cause of desert growing
and deforestation. The meat that comes from cattle bred in tropical jungles
destroys the land and exhausts it in very short time. Tomorrow we will
need to destroy more jungle and on our back desert will remain.
Because we do not consider ourselves superior
to them and we do not have right to kill them.
Because we believe that we do not have the
real need of eating animals, and therefore we do not eat them.
Because old life stiles are not always
right only because people did it from long time ago. It does not imply
that this will be correct because all the old traditions do not have to
be good.
Because to feel pity towards the animals,
we believe is bound with the character.
Because the no- violence gives tranquility.
Because until we do not cease of injuring
to other live beings, we are still ignorant savages.
Because the respect from the human being
towards the animals it´s bound to the respect of the persons mutually.
Because the issue is if the animals can
suffer; and if they can suffer it can not exist moral justification so
as not to take that suffering in consideration and to avoid it.
Because while our affection does not involve
all live beings, the human being will not feel peace.
Because is the respect toward all the living
creatures of the human being noblest attribute.
Because no human being wants consciously
to kill any living creature.
Because one who is cruel with animals, is
likely to be more unkind in his relations with other people.
Because the supremacy of the human beings
over the animals would have to be demonstrated caring for and protecting
them.
Because we believe that animals exist in
the world by themselves, and they were not made for the human being to
exploit them.
Because as an ancient wise told: "while
the men continue slaughtering animals, the war and the suffering will
remain on the earth and people will kill one to other, since the one that
sows pain and death will not be able to harvest neither JOY, nor PEACE,
neither LOVE."
Because we know the reality of a slaughterhouse
and we do not want be accomplices of it.
Because some animals are crowded in a small
farm cage all life without seeing a leaf of fresh grass, without any chance
of moving. For example, male chicks are considered so useless that are
thrown frequently in a waste´s mill machine - LIVE!.
Because when God forbade us to kill, did
not made any exception.
Because according to our anatomy, the man
has not been physiologically disposed to eat meat. The fruits and vegetables
are the food convenient to human being, as seems to demonstrate dents
structure and the length of the digestive system.
Because if it can be possible to live and
be well without killing animals; we now kill them only to satisfy the
appetite. And such act is avoidable.
Because if God said us in the Bible (Genesis
1:26 1:30 and 2:9) that we govern over the animals, He did not mention
that we are allowed to mistreat them.
Because the meat has few carbohydrates,
principal fuel for the human being; by the other way it has much fat,
cholesterol, uric acid, toxins and hormones.
Because there is no danger of nutritional
deficiency, all the nutrients can be obtained from vegetables. The cereals
and legumes have sufficient proteins.
Because to eat vegetable is also more affordable.
Compassion for animals is a human characteristic.
(See "Human Being")
For the yoga of diet (mitahara) the use of meat meals
does sicken the body, reduces the intuition and isolates the mind.

What is meat?
It is very illuminating the discussion and conclusions
reached by the uruguayan teenagers that fell in the airplain crash on
the Andes mountains in the year 1972 and where in the real need to eat
human flesh to survive.
"...but, why to eat meat? Canessa insisted in the fact
that they had the moral obligation of staying alive at all cost and using
all the resources available, and as he was sincere in his religious beliefs;
he tried to put more emphasis on what he said to the most pious survivors:
- Is only meat and nothing else that meat- he added -souls have abandoned
the bodies and they are now with God in the heaven.
All that remains here is not more than the body that was
containing the soul, and so, it is no more a human being.
It is just the SAME as the meat of the animals
that we eat at home-.
Zerbino continued speaking: - I know perfectly that if
my dead body could contribute to maintain you alive, I wish you use it
without any doubts. More, if I die and you do not eat me, I will return
from wherever I may be to give a kick in the back of each one-. Canessa
did take a piece of meat with the hand. He stop hesitating. Though he
was thoroughly decided, the horror of the moment paralyse him. The hand
was neither rising toward the mouth nor falling downwards, as the repugnance
he was feeling was fighting against his will.
Gustavo Nicolich wrote to his girlfriend: "Dearest Rosina,
There is something that will seem incredible to you (I still do not believe
it myself) today they have begun to cut meat of the died bodies to eat
it. There is no other way".
"Liliana and Javier, the two eldest of the group were
the only two that had not eaten meat. Marcelo was insisting in it once
and again so that they may overcome the repugnance and ate the meat. Liliana
was listening to what was saying to her, but she keep on moving her head
denying. - there is nothing bad in what you are doing, but I can not,
simply, I can not -".
"Had remained some embers and did seem reasonable trying
to roast a little of meat. They did not left it much time to the fire,
but the light roasted gave to the meat better flavor, a little softer
than cowmeat but very similar".
"The smell coming out of it gathered several boys about
fire, and Inciarte, that was the one of the persons feeling more repugnance
by the raw meat, found it very good once roasted.
For Roy Harley, Numa Turcatti and Eduardo Strauch was
also easier to overcome the repugnance if meat was ligthly roasted and
they ate it as if it where cow meat."
¡VIVEN! Piers Paul Read Ed. Moguer S.A. 1974
When there is no other alternative, perhaps one could
justify oneself the need of eating an animal (or even a human body) but
today there is a wide variety of food in our scope to choose. Today is
possible to choose among many eatable things. They could not choose, to
eat or to die. But in their effort to survive they understood the truth
that was in front of them:
we are
also animals, same with our body to those others.
"If one who cut trees, kills animals, or makes bloody
mud in a battle is happy; then please let me ask you... who is unhappy?"
A vegetal diet is a way to fight againts this:
